Music Styles- I’ve Got the World on a String

Frank Sinatra

I’ve Got the World on a String is soft but not slow at all, it has a touch that connects you to the melody and of course to the lyrics. The song seems not difficult to play; the instruments that compose it are trumpet, violin and there might be a drum too. I think it will be really common to hear it on concerts or in small jazz clubs.

This jazz song was composed by Harold Arlen and written by Ted Koehler in1932 originally for the Cotton Pub Parade presented by Cab Calloway and Bing Crosby. Frank Sinatra also recorded the song in 1953 and reached 14th place on Billboard’s most played list. I think the intention of the song, is to show the listeners that everyone has control over their own destiny.

  1. Part of Frank Sinatra's greatness as a singer is the way he brings out the meaning of lyrics (the words of the songs).

Harold Arlen was one of the best composers who contributed to what we call "the Great American Songbook."
